About the Causasus
The Caucasus is one of the most important geographical areas on the map as it is where Eastern and Western civilizations meet.
Here a unique culture was created with its own distinctive spiritual values, polyphonic folklore, architecture, social infrastructure and a rich canon of literature (both written and oral).
Throughout the recorded history of the world, the Caucasus has been a region of great strategic interest to empire builders, who have tried to claim and subjugate it but to no avail. For it still remains fiercely independent. And despite 200 years under the rule of Russian imperialism, which had the aim of replacing the existing cultures with a foreign system of values, many ethnic groups of different religions still live together in an atmosphere of mutual respect for each other in the region.
Here in the Caucasus some very important fields of human knowledge can be claimed to have originated such as the practice of medical herbalism, metallurgy, and the art of wine making etc.
The Caucasus is regarded as one of the cradles of human civilization, and hopefully this website and the events we promote will help to reflect this.
